Biography.
Born in The Bronx of Puerto Rican and Cuban heritage, Joe was popular in the New York-underground hip hop scene during the early and mid-1990s. He was also a member of the D.I.T.C. Crew ("Diggin' in the Crates"), along with well-respected rappers/producers Showbiz and A.G., Buckwild, O.C., Diamond D, Big L and Lord Finesse, and was featured on early records by various members.
He made his debut with 1993's Represent however enjoyed only fair critical and commercial success. His sophomore effort, 1995's Jealous Ones Envy however provided a more well rounded view of Joe, as he flaunted improved emcee skills and stronger production from the likes of Diamond D. The album was a critical success and faired reasonably well commercially.
However 1997's Don Cartagena album was the turning point for Joe, as he employed a softer, more pop orientated sound and from this point on would largely abandon his hardcore sound in favour of music that would sell more records and be played on dancefloors.
